Mango cv. Kaew is one of the commercial varieties of economic importance in the mango industry in Thailand. Following the progeny test of 320 Kaew clones collected from the North, Northeast and Central Thailand, a number of clones with superior horticultural traits were selected for further evaluation. Of those, the SK 007 clone provided the highest fruit yield of 65.4 kg per tree at year 7-8. A subsequent comparison yield trial of the previously selected clones indicated that the SK 007, officially recommended by the Department of Agriculture and currently known as Kaew Sisaket, has an average yield of 25.5 kg per tree at year 5-6 with the average fruit weight of 252 g, 81 percent flesh and 0.049 percent citric acid. The fine texture, low fibre content and firm flesh offer good quality for pickling. Other aspects of this clone with regard to processing will also be discussed. The Kaew Sisaket has been released to farmers since 1994. Although Kaew mango is mainly desirable for processing, it can be consumed as green. In addition, it has been exported as ripe mango, at least to the neighbouring markets. Further investigation on consumer preference to this variety and perhaps additional breeding programmes, are needed to expand the international markets, particularly for fresh consumption.
