Influence of low concentrations of 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) on plant growth and pigments accumulation in barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) seedlings was studied. Research results showed that the presowing seed maceration in low concentrations ALA (0,012-0,12 мМ) promoted the growth and development of barley seedlings and increased the carotenoids content. Research results showed that 0,06 mM was the optimal concentration of ALA, it caused the acceleration of second leaf formation, increasing of the width of the second and the third leaves, acceleration of bushing out phase and increasing of plant top. Seeds pretreatment with amino acid alanine did not exercise influence on growing habit of barley seedlings that could be explained by the specific action of ALA as plant growth regulator
