El pimiento 'California Wonder' constituye en la provincia de Sancti Spíritus un cultivo de importancia para el sector privado, ya que anualmente se cosechan grandes volúmenes con fines de exportación y para satisfacer el mercado interno. Las afectaciones de Meloidogvne han significado para algunos productos pérdidas en los rendimientos. En la cosecha 1981-1982 se marcaron 100 plantas en el momento de la floración en tres campos donde existía una infestación generalizada; se evaluaron el número y peso de los frutos por planta durante la cosecha y, finalmente, la altura y el grado de infestación. Se correlacionaron los tres índices con el grado de infestación existente en escala de 10 grados. During the 1981-1982 campaign, 100 plants were marked at flowering time in three fields where there was a generalized infestation, and the number and weight of the fruts were assessed per plant at harvest as well as finally the plant height and degree of infestation. Those three parameters were correlated with the existing degree of infestation according to a 10 grades scale. It could be established that for each degree there was a height decrease of 4,45 cm, a loss of 0,61 fruits and a weight reduction of 0, 074 kg per plant. This shows the effect of the parasite on the crop as the infestation is increasing. It was estimated that the losses caused by M. incognita in the fields under study amounted to 28 700 kg/ha, ie about 50 % of the expected yields.
