This experiment was carried out to determine the adaptability and stability, the quantitative and qualitative traits of 7 promising rice lines and one check variety (Khazar) in three locations of Guilan province (Rasht,Hashtpar and Rudsar) during 2000-2002. The experimental design was randomized complete block with 4 replications and 25 cm ×25 cm hill spacing. Simple ANOVA of yield trails showed significant differences among the cultivars. Combined ANOVA was calculated after the uniformity (Bartlet) test. Since the factors of year and location were random, the F test was calculated based on expected mean squares. So that there were significant differences among cultivars and Locations. The interactions of cultivar × location and cultivar × year were non significant. It means that the reaction of cultivars in different locations and years was the same. The interactions of year×location and year×location× cultivar were significant, that proved the importance of year × location effects and genetice variation of cultivars (cultivar effect) on the yield of genotypes. The stability was evaluated through six different methods including: variance and coefficient of variability of environment (parameter No.1), coefficient of regression of mean yield on environment index (parameter No.2), variance and deviation from regression linear (Parameter No.3), within location variance and C.V. (parameter No.4). The results of these methods were differed slightly. But cultivar No.831 was stable because of having less variance and C.V.of parameters No.1 and 4, and having coefficient of regression equal to unity, and less deviation from regression. Line No.830 also was the most stable through five methods except less deviation from regression. The average yield of the linesNO.830 and 831 were 5-5.5 t / ha. Grain cooking quality characteristics were good with intermediate amylose content, gelatinization temperature and gel consistency. Milling recovery rate were 68-69% with 57-62% head rice. Appearance qualities also were suitable with long grain and slender shape. Consequently due to higher mean yield compare to Khazar and the desired morphological and grain quality traits, these two cultivars were selected to release as new varieties.
