Identification of fungi involving wheat root and crown rot diseases in Hamedan province

This study was accomplished during 1995-1996 to identify the major casual agents of root and crown rot of wheat and determine their significance and distribution in Hamedan province. Root and foot samples of wheat showing stunting , yellowing , white headed and decaying or brown discoloration of lower parts were collected from various part of the province included : Hamedan , Malayer , Nahavand , Asadabad , toeserkan , razan and Bahar transfered with soil arround the root to plant pathology lab. In the lab , parts of infected root , crown and foot were washed in tap water and segments (5-10 mm)after strillized with sodium hypochlorite 0/5 % plated on acidified PDA and CMA or other suitable mediums. After purified isolates , pathogenicity test were carried out on the base of Raise(1982) and Root dip and Seed inoculation methods. Results of this study showed that root and crown rot diseases of wheat mor or less is in all field of the province and more sever in kabotarahang with average 12 infected percent . Genius of fungi that distinguished as causing root and crown rot of wheat in Hamedan province included Fusarium spp.(86 isolates), Gaumanomyces graminis var tritici (38 isolates ),Rhizoctonia solani (21 isolates),Bipolaris sorokiniana (17 isolates ) and pythium ultimum( 7 isolates).
