In this paper, I present four mathematical methods of estimating the numerical values that are required to evaluate salmon stock characteristics based on mark-recapture data for adult chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta) in northern Hokkaido, Japan. First, the fishing mortality coefficient and dispersal rate (per day) in the fishing area were estimated based on time series data of recaptures. Second, the date on which most fish reached a catch point in the river was estimated. The third and fourth methods provided the estimates for the parameters of stock structure. Each mathematical model was closely followed to the observed data of the three mark-recapture experiments conducted in the costal area of the Sea of Okhotsk in 2003 and 2004.
