The investigation farm Skriveri at the Research Institute of Agriculture was founded in 1956. It was the experimental basis for Research Institute of Agriculture and region model farm of a size 5820 ha. The main task of model farm was to provide farms of Latvia with basic seed. Besides plant production there was an animal husbandry branch in farm Skriveri. From 1976 the farm was a breed producer of Latvian Brown Cow. Today the institute for research and development in agriculture is funded by the government and EU subsidies. In this article author also introduces with the most outstanding scientists of the Research institute of Agriculture and the main directions in research work.
