The main winter hardiness factor of winter crops is the right choose of varieties in Latvia, particularly in Vidzeme and Latgale regions, where winters are cold. Winter hardiness is a dynamic factor - unsteady and depending on weather conditions during autumn and winter period. Essential importance is outside environmental factors, particularly temperature and variety's genotype, that determine longevity of plant hardened in autumn resulting in resistance against unfavourable conditions in wintering period.
