Betterment of Estonian agriculture via co-operation and credit unions
2007
Tomson, E. | Roos, A.
Co-operation is one of the main possibilities of self-help for producers, especially agricultural small producers. This gives a possibility to buy cheaper and sell more expensively. This expands the investment possibilities of farmers and agricultural enterprisers. The history of agricultural co-operation in Estonia dates back to a hundred years. With the initiative and co-financing of credit unions it is possible to build up a functional co-operative system of farmers and agricultural enterprisers, which benefit both agricultural producers of the parish and local inhabitants as consumers. To execute this, the joint initiative of local inhabitants and credit unions is necessary, preceded by active explanatory work by the co-operative circles of Estonia. The role of co-operation in Estonian agriculture is to withstand the monopolising economic circles, holding the greater part of agricultural processing industry.
