anglais. Citrus is one of the most important fruit species in the Philippines. Due to intermediate nature of Citrus seeds, all citrus species have been conserved as living collections in field genebanks or in greenhouses. Alternative in vitro conservation strategies are currently being developed for both endemic and cultivated Citrus species. Preliminary trials for cryopreservation through seed dessication seed dessication technique of select Citrus species such as lime (Citrus aurantiifolia), 'kubot' (native citrus sp), calamansi (X Citrofortunella microcarpa), szinkom and ladu (Citrus reticulata) and pummelo (citrus grandis) were done. Initial results showed higher tolerance to dessiccation (10% moisture content) and freezing. The percent germination of dessicated seeds (27% moisture content) after cryopreservation ranged from 5.5 to 100%. Further studies are being done to improve the seed dessication technique for cryopreservation of different citrus species in the country.
