Ansari, A.F. (Sindh Univ., Jamshoro (Pakistan). Inst. of Pharmacy) | Jokhio, R.
The cytotoxic effect of crude cobra snake venom on different cellular macromolecules like RNA, DNA and total proteins was quantitatively evaluated in liver, heart and kidneys of rabbits. During the treatment of 30 minutes incubation at 37 degree C the venom did not produce any significant change in all the macromolecular contently against their controls (without venom). When assessed as a close response curve, the overall nucleic acid content of all the tissues, after incubation, exhibited a mixed response where as the protein fraction showed linear correlation with increasing dose (10,25,50 mug/ml). It may be concluded that snake venom does have influence on the normal animal tissue.
