Le semis direct en Aragon : Association Aragonaise d'Agriculture de Conservation
2006
Sopena, P.(Agracon, Huesca (Spain))
Within the current agricultural context, it is essential to take care of the environment without neglecting the farm's profitability. In Aragon, a region with low rainfall and high erosion risk, some pioneering farmers started to use direct seeding in the 80s and at the beginning of the 90s. At present around 100,000 ha are farmed under direct seeding and the trend is increasing. The advantages for farmers are: decrease in labour costs, regular production, lower erosion, increase in organic matter, etc. AGRACON was founded in 1998 with the aim of solving the problems faced by those farmers who pioneered conservation agriculture (CA). The association has 120 members and is undergoing a marked expansion. It has become a tool for learning CA, a forum for farmers where know-how is shared, advice is provided and new strategies for agriculture are proposed
