Analysis of breeding values of divergent parental genotypes for pericarp thickness of pepper (Capsicum annuum L.)

The aim of this study was to determine genetic value for pericarp thickness of pepper in F1 and F2 generations of diallelly crossed pepper genotypes, and to evaluate the effects of applyed pedigree and bulk methods of selection in F3 hybrid populations. Hybrid populations were developed by crossing divergent genotypes belonging to different varieties of Capsicum annuum L. species. All crossing combinations showed that the heterosis effect in the F1 generation for the observed trait was low. The genetic analysis of the F2 generation showed that the observed trait was inherited by partial dominance. Hybrid populations in the F3 generation, developed by the pedigree method were evaluated as more valuable for further breeding for the studied trait than the hybrid populations derived by the bulk method.
