Self-purification into recipient - lateral canal of drainage system Zitiste [Vojvodina Province, Serbia]

The main canal network (MCN) of Hydrosystem Danube-Tisza-Danube, Serbia, has multipurpose function. Beside others, canals are the recipients of high amount of wastewater from settlements, industry and agriculture. Wastewaters are discharged into MCN directly or by lateral canals. Today, majority of lateral canals are recipients for wastewater. Their self-purification power are reduced or completely made impossible. The results of water quality investigation in lateral canal of drainage system Zitiste are shown in this paper. Also, the critical time indispensable for to catch minimal oxygen content is estimated.
