Several species from the genera Puccinia and Uromyces are causal agents of rust in sunflower. Puccinia helianthi is the most frequent and most widely distributed pathogen of sunflower, while the others are less important. P. helianthi is a macrocyclic monoxenous parasite. In some countries, it has caused yield reductions up to 50%. After the introduction of rust-resistant hybrids, the disease has lost its economic importance. Albugo tragopogonis is the causal agent of white rust. This disease not occurs in Serbia. The disease attacks all plants parts, especially the foliage. Whitish pustules can be seen on infected plant parts. They are filled with reproductive structures of the fungus - sori with sporangia. Control measures are not applied.
