In this thesis, presence of bacterial kidney disease (BKD) in Serbia and possibility of the application of reliable diagnostic methods that can detect low levels of Renibacterium salmoninarum in a variety of sample types were examined. Samples were taken from three largest rainbow trout farms in Serbia. BKD has been found in rainbow trout yearlings from one fish farm. R. salmoninarum was detected in kidneys of diseased trouts using DFAT, and isolated on kidney disease medium (KDM-2). R. salmoninarum was detected in ovarian fluid from one fish farm using MF-FAT, and in egg samples using modified MF-FAT. Modification of MF-FAT has imporived accuracy of R. salmoninarum detection in eggs compared to previously used methods.
