Health of high beech forests in the area of Severni Kucaj [Serbia]

The occurrence and the intensity of the effect of individual biotic and abiotic, harmful factors and their effect on the health of high beech forest was researched in the area of Severni Kucaj, Serbia. During 2005, in the selected study areas in management units Majdan Kucajna and Crni Vrh, 826 standing beech trees were analysed in detail. On the sample plots, the factors of abiotic nature and human factors had the highest effect on the general idea of the health state. The biotic factors in MU Crni Vrh were the significant presence of Cryptococcus fagisuga Lind. and the sporadic incidence of pathogenic fungus Nectria coccinea which together cause a very dangerous beech bark disease.
