The microbicidal effect of forest species on the environment in Serbia was researched for one year, with special reference to the activity of the species Juniperus communis L. and Mentha longifolia (L.) Huds. The study shows that all aromatic species of trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants have the microbicidal acitivity. By the amount of microbicidal metabolites - essential oils, special emphasis is given to the species Juniperus communis L. (up to 3%) and Mentha longifolia (up toe 4%). Essential oils of forest species have an inhibitory effect on the majority of the most frequent bacteria species, however the fungicidal effect was not observed.
