The paper gives on overview of the current state in the research and application of numerical environmental prediction models in the world. Basic ideas concerning the new approaches in this field are underlined. The state of education, research and application of numerical environmental prediction models in Serbia and Montenegro is shortly described. Suggestions for climatic variability and climatic change research strategy and use of crop models for purposes of field and vegetable crops production in the Vojvodina Province (Serbia) are given.
