The effect of drought stress (pot experiments) and ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) inhibitor (pot and field experiments) on the ascorbic acid formation, nitrates accumulation and the ratio of the K/Na accumulation in celery roots and haulm were assessed. In drought stress conditions the accumulation of nitrates was dramatically increased, more fractionaly ascorbic acid and more than doubly the ratio of K/Na imput in celery roots, but not in haulm. The ODC inhibitor increased nitrates accumulation by 6-40% in field experiments and by 21-50% in relatively optimal soil wet conditions of pot experiments, but ones partly percentualy reduced accumulation of nitrates comparing to control plants in drought conditions. The ODC inhibitor decreased the ascorbic acid formation, stress metabolite, in the both wet conditions at once, fewer expressively in drought conditions. The ODC inhibitor increased the ratio of K/Na imput in the optimal soil wet conditions, ones decreased its in drought stress, because plants accumulated more Na. The results are confirmation that plant polyamines act as antistressors.
