This article provides an analysis into the unemployment in agriculture and its regional projection into certain typical area aggregations. This group of unemployed is characterised by low income and difficult reintegration into the labour market. At the time of increased pressure on flexible employment structure, the part time jobs are often combined with unemployment status. These frequent changes in status produce a negative impact for future social benefits paid out to such persons. The low income in households in rural areas naturally results in increasing self-supply activities which form a sort of a social cushion for people with reduced purchase power who take increased social and economic risks. In conclusion, the article describes the impact on rural development of the scheduled funding planned by structural policy in small- and large-scale scenarios. This should result in qualitative changes to gradually take place in the rural areas of Slovakia.
