Cage culture frog (Rana rugulosa Wiegmann) fed on diets with varying levels of top-dressed fish oil

Frog (Rana rugulosa Wiegmann) with an average weight of 6.26+-0.08 g were experimentally cultured in 15 floating cages (2*3*1.5 m) and fed commercially available diets : frog commercially diet (diet I) and catfish commercially diets with varying levels (0 2 4 and 6 percent) of top-dressed fish oil (diet II III IV V ). Diets were analyzed as having 41.25 33.11 32.58 31.72 and 31.14 percent protein and 4.08 6.00 7.97 9.54 and 11.07 percent lipid. Frog were stocked at rate of 240/cage and fed twice daily for 9 week. The result revealed that the growth (In term of final weight and daily weight gain) and protein efficiency ratio of frog fed diets III IV and V were greater (p LT 0.05) than frog fed diet I but not significant difference from those that fed with diet II. No difference (p GT 0.05) in survival rate were found among treatments. Catfish commercially diets+2 percent fish oil contain 32.58 protein and 7.97 lipid describing clearly the role of combination of protein and lipid in the diet for growth and feed utilization (175.91+-6.63 g final weight, 12.69+- 0.10 DWG 1.34+-0.01 FCR, 2.29+-0.03 PER and 81.25+-5.32 percent survival rate). Frog cage culture cost was 38.34 baht/kg.
