Effect of soil and fertilizer techniques in saline soil management on quality of tomato yield

Research study has been carried out to investigate the potential of growing tomato, particularly in heavy salted soils of Northeast Thailand. It was found that under some appropriate techniques of the integration of soil and fertilizer management, the tomato cv. Sida produced fresh fruit yield with good quality for consumption. Each experimental plot was plowed and leveled up 20 cm from previous soil surface to incorporate cut African Sesbania (S. rostrata) into the soil. Mineral fertilizer grade 15-15-15 at the rate of 50 kg/rai was applied by means of spotting and broadcasting techniques together with rice husk 800 kg/rai and farm manure 1600 kg/rai, respectively. The results showed that the spotting technique increased tomato yield up to 1.4 ton/rai whereas the yield harvested from broadcasting treatments was 1.1 ton/rai. Nevertheless, applying green manure only supported tomato yield 110 kg/rai. The management of soil and fertilizer has positive trend to increase yield qualities in terms of more attractive skin color of fresh fruit brix value and vitamin C.
