Application of gene specific molecular markers in genotyping and identification of the rhodopa shorthorn cattle breed

Protection of the biological diversity of the fauna in our country is an urgent problem and our obligation to the future generations. The aim of this study was to accomplish a genotyping of the predominant number of animals by using contemporary methods such as DNA polymorfic analysis, in order to identify the genetic characteristics of the Bulgarian Rhodope cow breed. This breed will be compared with the typical local Rhodope shorthorn cow breed as well as a Jersey cow breed to determine the percent of share and the initial forms of rigin of the Bulgarian Rhodope cow breed. Efforts will be made to preserve the typical Rhodope shorthorn cow breed and to recuperate this population for the purpose of preservation of the genetic fund of the Rhodope shorthorn cow breed. A plan about its reproduction will be elaborated too.
