The effect of high temperature stress on photosynthetic apparatus /PSA/ efficiency in three garden pea varieties (Mira, Iskar and Skinado) was investigated by chlorophyll fluorescence parameters. The plants were subjected to 35, 40 and 45° С for 2, 3, 4 и 5 hours during the bud-formation - flowering period. It was established, that the influence of the high temperature on the PSA efficiency is determined from the intensity and duration of stress factor. A temperature exposure at 35° C did not significantly affect PSA of pea plants. Based on the obtained results, critical temperature regimes for PSA /0° C - 5 h and 45° C for 2-4 h/ for test of garden pea gene pool, as well as for selection of genotypes tolerant to high temperature were determined at the Maritsa Vegetable Crops Research Institute, Plovdiv. Viriety Mira is superior in tolerance to high temperature as compared to Iskar and Skinado.
