The effect of production system on the behaviour of layer hens was studied. Two hundred layers were divided into 2 groups - I: 100 layer hens at the age of 18 to 72 weeks that prior to their 18 weeks of age were reared on a deep litter and group II: 100 hens that were reared in battery cages prior to their 18 weeks of age. It was found that tha change in the production system was not justified beacause it had an adverse effect on the utilization of space and the technological elements constituting the enviroment of birds.
