[Influence of hyperthermia on the sugar content in leaves and coleoptiles of etiolated and greening barley (Hordeum vulgare. L.) and triticale seedlings]

Investigation of the character of changes of free sugars content in leaves and coleoptiles of etiolated and greening barley (Hordeum vulgare. L.) and triticale seedlings as a result of single heat shock was realized. It was observed that high temperature (3 hours at 40 deg C) reduced the content of all free sugars in etiolated barley and triticale leaves while in coleoptiles the sugar level remained unchanged. Lighting in course of 1 hour caused the increase of sugar content in leaves of barley in spite of the preliminary heat treatment. At the same time, in triticale leaves the same effect was detected only in heated plants. In 24 hours of lighting there was noted the decrease of all monosaccharides and disaccharides content in leaves and coleoptiles in both barley and triticale up to the level of control groups of crops. The obtained results proved the lack of organospecificity of monosaccharides and disaccharides distribution, weak donor-acceptor interactions between leaves and coleoptiles. Behaviour of metabolism of soluble sugars made it possible to assume that they took part in the adaptation of cereal seedlings to the heightened temperatures
