[Comparative evaluation of dwarf varieties and forms of Iris x hybrida hort. and selection of perspective taxons for the industrial assortment]

Peculiar features of growth and development of the collection of dwarf varieties and forms of Iris (I. pumila) x hybrida hort plants introduced in the Republic of Belarus and assessment of their prospective use in the ornamental gardening and ornamental planting were presented. Investigation of dwarf Iris varieties for the selection of the best varieties for the industrial culture was realized. The primary evaluation of flowers was realized according to the indices of ornamentality (colour; size; form; flower odour; number of flowers in inflorescence; flowering abundance; climate resistance; leaves ornamentality; variety originality and uniformity) at the stage of mass flowering and general fitness to the local conditions; the comparative evaluation of the perspective varieties and forms was realized according to the indices of ornamentality and economic and biological indices (duration and productivity of flowering; reproductive performance; disease, climate and pest resistance). According to the comparative evaluation results 13 varieties and 10 forms of the Iris x hybrida hort were recommended for broad cultivation in the conditions of Belarus
