By mixture planting and inter-planting of crops, the resistance level of crop population was improved and plant diseases and insect pests were controlled naturally. The present paper summarized the recent advances in the related models, effectiveness and mechanisms in controlling plant diseases and insect pests. The advantages, application potential and future research focus on mixture planting and inter-planting were also discussed.
