The aim of this study was to evaluate the thermophysical properties of different crops used as biofuels and to compare their chemical composition as well as the composition of their ashes and gases. The following crops were tested: Brassica napus, Cannabis sativa, Carthamus tinctorius, Linum usitatissimum, Triticum aestivum (straw), Zea mays, Acacia sp., Amaranthus sp., Betula sp., Malva sp., Picea sp., Pinus sp., Populus sp., Rumex sp., Salix sp. Our tests confirmed that the biomass should be utilised in two phases as follows: 1) combustion; 2) gases as a fuel or after their cleanup for the co-generation units.
