Effect of ovo-synch programme on serum total cholesterol in cyclic dairy cows
2005
Sathiamoorthy, T. | Subramanian, A. | Balasubramanian, S.
Serum total cholesterol (STC) was estmated in thirty crossbred dairy cows estrus synchronized with PGF 2a and GnRH. The STC level started to increase after initiation of the treatment in both the experimental groups. The highest level was reached on the day of estrus in both the treatment groups. The STC level was higher in group-II cows over group-1. The mean STC level (157.5+14.23 mg/dl) on the day of estrus in control animals was significantly lower than the treatment groups. The STC levels on the day of inducted estrus did not correlate with fertility. It is concluded that the administration of GnRH analogue in the Ovo-synch programme in dairy animals influences the STC level positively and this higher level on the day of estrus does not correlate with fertility.
