Effects of decreasing the number of irrigation events at crop development stage on the quantity and quality of two Sunflower varieties.

Progressive water demand for agricultural development and shortage of water usage IS an important factor to applying of decreasing the irrigation events at crop development stage. Sunflower is native and main crop in Khoy region in the North of West Azerbaijan. In order to study of the effects of decreasing the number of irrigation events on quality and quantity yield of Azargol hybrid and Hisun 33 varieties of Sunflower, an experimental layout was applied. It was randomized complete block design for main factor (varieties) with cofactor (decreasing the number of irrigation events at crop development stage) a Split Plot on main with three replications in two years successively. The main factors were two Sunflower varieties and the cofactors were in 5 levels of irrigation events including: Tt= Full irrigation at crop development stage, T2=decreasing the irrigation events at 20-th leaf stage, T3=decreasing the irrigation event at 25-th leaf stage, T4=decreasing the irrigation events at 30-th leaf stage and Ts=decreasing the irrigation events at 20¬th and 30-th leaf stage. Evaluated quantity parameters were: water use efficiency (WUE), yield, height of plant, head diameter and 1000 kernel weight. Evaluated quality parameter was: Oil percentage. Analysis of the main factor showed that, they were significartt and quantity yields of Azargol hybrid variety were higher than Hisun 33 variety. Analysis of the cofactor showed that, quantity parameters were significant but for applying of decreasing the number of irrigation events especially for Azargol hybrid variety, T2 treatment is recommended.
