Comparison between energy systems: metabolisable, net and effective energy of feeds for pigs

Twenty feed ingredients, differing for their contents of starch, protein and fibre, were compared for their estimated values of metabolizable (ME), net (NE) and effective energy (EE) for growing pigs and sows. The ME and NE values were taken from the feed tables proposed by Noblet et al. (2004). The EE values were computed, as suggested by Emmans (1993), from the same tables using the contents of ME, undigestible organic matter, digestible crude protein and digestible lipids. In the EE system, the energy value of feed is corrected for some of the main animal effects which can influence efficiency of metabolic use of energy. Within each system, the EM, EN and EE values of each feed were expressed in relative terms with respect to corn meal. Results indicated that NE and EE relative values are lower than ME values for feeds rich in protein and fibre. Moreover, the results show that the hierarchy between feeds obtained in the NE and EE systems was similar

Con lo scopo di paragonare sistemi energetici diversi, venti alimenti per suini caratterizzati da contenuti variabili di amido, proteina e fibra sono stati confrontati per i loro contenuti di energia metabolizzabile (EM), netta (EN) ed effettiva (EE). I valori di EM ed EN sono stati ricavati dalle tabelle alimentari proposte da Noblet et al. (2004), mentre i valori di EE sono stati calcolati, come suggerito da Emmans (1993), a partire dai valori di EM e dai contenuti digeribili di sostanza organica, proteina grezza e lipidi delle stesse tabelle. L'EE esprime un contenuto di energia intrinseco degli alimenti, reso cioè indipendente, con un approccio deduttivo, dai principali fattori animali che condizionano il metabolismo intermedio dei nutrienti digeribili e che perciò si rende utile come metro di confronto di altri sistemi energetici. Nell'ambito di ciascuna modalità di espressione energetica, i contenuti assoluti di EM, EN ed EE dei venti alimenti sono stati espressi in termini relativi, ponendo pari a 100 i valori del mais. I risultati indicano che, rispetto ai valori di EM, i contenuti energetici relativi di EN ed EE sono sensibilmente inferiori per gli alimenti ricchi in proteina e in fibra. I risultati ottenuti indicano un buon accordo tra i sistemi dell'EN e il sistema dell'EE nello stabilire un ordine gerarchico tra alimenti per il loro contenuto energetico
