Relationship among nitrogen content in rice grains, silicon content of rice plants, and available silicon of soil in grey lowland paddy soil of long-term composted field experiment was examined. Silicon/nitrogen content ratio in matured stage of rice straws had positive correlation with number of grains/nitrogen ratio and ripening ratio, and it had negative correlation with nitrogen content in rice grains. Three methods for measuring available silicon of paddy soil, i.e. the acetate buffer method, the submerged soil incubation method and the phosphate buffer method were investigated, and the amounts of available silicon determined by these methods correlated logarithmic curvelinearly with silicon content in matured stage of straw. No correlation was observed between the amounts of available silicon from these three methods and nitrogen content of rice grains.
