Since 2000 there is a tendency for the number of poultry to grow. In 2006, number of poultry, in comparison to 2005, has increased by 11; and amounted to 4 448 thousands pcs (table 1). Poultry farming dominates in aviculture in Latvia. Birds of other species are in small numbers, around 2-3; of total poultry number. Poultry is kept on more than a half of country farms and households in Latvia (table 2), but almost 90; of total number of birds are housed in specialised poultry farms.
