Long-term co-administration of Salinomycin and Tiamulin along with chlortetracycline in broilers

A 35-day feeding was conducted in cages to evaluate the interaction of tiamutin (TIA) plus chlortetracyclin (CTC) when administered concurrently with salinomycin (SAL) in broilers. Total 200 straight-run day-old broiler chicks were distributed into 4 groups (each group consisted of 5 cages with 10 birds ineach). Feed for all groups contained 60 ppm SAL, but were added 0, 20, 30 and 50 ppm TIA and 0, 60, 90 and 150 ppm CTC consequently. Several enzymes were measured from blood samples taken at the end of trial. Blood samples collected during day 0, 19 and 35 were also determined for titer level against Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) and Mycoplasma synoviae (MS). Necropsy of few birds was conducted during a weekly interval. Results indicated that the depression of weight gain caused only in 50 ppm TIA group. However, feed intake (FI) and feed conversion efficiency (g weight gain/kg FI) was not affected in any groups. There was no dose-related adverse effect on mortality. No clinical symptoms exhibited during any stage of the trial. Maternal immunity presents against MG during start, but disappeared immediately (day 19). Throughout the trial there was no infection by MG/MS. Results also demonstrated that 50 ppm TIA plus 150 ppm CTC along with 60 ppm SAL caused only the depression of growth, but signs of any negative interaction were not detected. Considering all aspects along with the cost of production the 20 ppm TIA plus 60 ppm CTC is recommended to administer continuously with 60 ppm SAL via feed, but it is important to study using artificial infection to know either this dose would be sufficient to prevent the infection.
