To determine the quality of wood materials, wood industry specialists usually use physical (density, moisture content) and mechanical (compression, tensile, bending strength and modulus of elasticity) properties of wood. Factors influencing the modulus of elasticity and bending strength depending on the loading direction, applying the loading strength in three (small cross-section sample) or four points (large cross-section sample) of samples, vary considerably. Components used for pallet production and pallets are also assigned to large cross-section samples. In the manufacturing of pallets and in the process of maintenance it is essentially important to forecast the load carrying capacity and stiffness of bending. To solve the issue, an experimental research was carried out employing 47 softwood (pine and spruce) pallets of serial production designed for use in 2nd exploitation class (Eurocode 5). Bending stiffness of the pallets has been found using characteristics determined in the previous research – moment of bending, moment of inertia and bending resistance at the moment of elastic deformation and at the moment of destruction of the pallets. Also the influence of joint of the pallets has been found; its characteristic is the moment of resistance at the moment of testing. Research results show that the increasing effect of the pallet construction for softwood pallets is 2 times.
