Energy supply is a security element for each country nowadays. Energetic provides the safety. The question is - how to use current resources effectively, with a minimum impact on environment, and the challenge is to search for new resources simultaneously reducing dependency from them. Economical, political dependency is important for every country especially for small countries like Latvia which has escaped from one big conglomerate - the USSR - and now learns how to live in an even big conglomerate - the EU. In 2007, Estonia exported 1549.4 GWh, Lithuania - 2966.2 GWh, but Latvia imported 2147.6 GWh. This shows how dependent we are and how urgent is the energy guarantee after the closing of Ignalina nuclear power station. The common tendency in Europe is that scientists actively participate in the developing and solving of energetic problems and the Baltic States, Latvian among them, are on the top of all countries in the alternative question solving. Seven sub-programmes in the State Programme of Energetic are realized by the Institute of Physical Energetics, Riga Technical University, Latvia University of Agriculture, Institute of Solid State Physics of University of Latvia, Institute of physics of University of Latvia, and by different independent laboratories. The National Research Programme 'Research and development of modern methods and technologies in energetic: usage of environmentally friendly renewable resources, safety of power supply and energy efficiency', obviously turns great attention towards the production of power supply, delivery to consumers and eventually - to energy economy.
