Dynamics of pluralistic agricultural extension in Valencia, Negros Oriental, Philippines

This study sought to describe the dynamics of the process involved in the pluralistic system of agricultural extension and its effects in carrying out the goal of the agricultural development and livelihood training program in Valencia, Negros Oriental, Philippines. Descriptive method of research was used with one hundred twenty respondents selected from the participating groups of farmers from sixteen barangays [villages]. Pearson Correlation was used to test the degree of relationship between the organizational factors in pluralistic extension and the level of benefits gained by farmers and the adequacy of extension goods provided. The relationship between farmers' socio-demographic characteristics and their perception toward the program with the involvement of multiple service providers was predetermined using Chi-square test of association. Results revealed that two-way and multi-channel communication were used and encouraged by extension service providers. High level of interaction existed among the LGU, LCC, DECS-DNO, UP, CSOs and other institutions with a complimentary provision of agricultural goods and services. Moreover, results showed that organizational factors pluralistic agricultural extension influenced the level of benefits that farmers gained and the adequacy of agricultural extension goods provided. However, farmers' socio-demographic characteristics did not influence their perception toward the program within the context of multiple extension service providers.
