One of the methods in transferring DNA to embryos or embryonic stem cells via retroviral vectors. Special properties of retroviruses make them useful in transgenesis and gene therapy. the process of transgenesis with use of retroviral vectors is based on the retroviral replication cycle. Application of retroviruses as vectors requires far reaching modification of these organisms, which is based on replacing viral genes with desirable ones. Retroviral infection is also one of the most efficient methods used in radom insertional inactivation of genes, and therefore construction of highly specialized retroviral vectors finds its application in the gene trap method. Reporter genes are necessary in transgenic experiments. Genetic marker allow recognition of integration processes of genes, not only experiments based on retroviral vectors, but also in other methods of transgenesis
