Bozek, M.,Akademia Rolnicza, Lublin (Poland). Katedra Botaniki
In 1995-97 studies were carried out in the collection of meliferous plants, at the ISK Pulawy (Poland). The investigations concerned species from Lamiaceae family. The area of experimental plots ranged from 4 to 6 square m. In the present study the daily rhythm of honeybees visits in relation to the daily dynamics of flower opening and time of pollen collection in some Lamiaceae species were investigated. Moreover, the mean insects density per area unit during peak hours of flower visitation was estimated. Flowers of the species studied were visited by poolinators during the whole day. Usually, the highest intensity of insect visits was observed at midday hours but the species with flowers opening throughout a day were visited more steadily by insects. The time of pollen collection by honeybees was correlated with the time of pollen exposure and daily dynamics of flower opening
