The effects of mucky soil evolution in the peat bog of the Omulew River delta were determined on the basis of field research and laboratory analyses of soil material. As a results of evolutionary transformations related to the disappearance of organic matter, mucky peat soils formed from rushy and alder swamp peats on loose outwash sands were transformed into mineral soils, in the following sequence: peat muck - mineral-muck - proper muck - muckous - arenosol. The lowest density was observed in peat-muck soil. Total porosity results were quite the opposite. The largest content of organic matter was found in peat-muck soils, but the smallest in arenosols
