The study aimed at assessment of the changes in weed communities present in hemp plantations for last 40 years (1967-2006). The observations were made in three time intervals: 1967-70, 1989-92, and in 2006. Concentration (specimens/square m) and species composition of the weeds were studied in hemp plantations located in experimental farms. Weeds typical for cereal and root crops dominated in hemp cultivations in Poland. For the last 4 decades average number of species occurring in hemp increased slightly (from 21 to 28 species/square m), however no weeds that can be described as specific for hemp cultivation have been observed
