In the research carried out at the Zawady Experimental Station (Poland) an effect of seven ways of soil preparation before winter triticale sowing was analysed. Among the winter triticale characteristics, statistically significant differences in the number of plants after germination, final plant number per 1 square m and the grain yield were found. In all the mentioned cases, the significantly lowest values were obtained in the case of the treatment with the nonploughing cultivation. Also the remaining parameters reached the lowest values for the above mentioned treatment, yet the differences were not significant. The grain yield significantly correlated only with the number of plants after germination and the final plant number per 1 square m, which suggests that the stand content from the beginning to the end of vegetation shaped the final yield-creating effect
