Synthetic assessment of sustainable development on the farms' level

The paper presents the methodology of synthetic assessment of sustainable farm development. The nonparametric DEA method of optimization was used here for the multicriterial appraisal of sustainability. This methods allows to include large data sets of different measurement units and to generate optimized models which have the quality of reference standard. In the drawn up methods, 2-stage way of assessing has been applied through integration of component indicators, describing the separate activities or their effects, into composite indicators and following that, the estimation of synthetic index. Exemplification of the evaluation method applied to the data set of 58 farms showed that only 9 farms (15.5 percent) reached the value of synthetic index equal to the level of reference standard (a value of 1.0)
