Changes of dry matter and L-ascorbic acid contents in the leaves of two cultivars of celery (Apium graveolens L. var. dulce Mill./Pers.) relative to the length of vegetation and soil mulching

The research concerned of the content of the dry matter and L-ascorbic acid in petioles, leaf blades and the whole plants of the two Polish original cultivars of the celery (Helios and Zefir) according to the plant's vegetation period on the field (there were 80, 100 and 120 days from the planting on the field). There was also shown the influence of the artificial mulching (the black plastic PE and the black nonwoven PP) on the content of the chemical components. The content of the dry matter increased in all tested parts of the plants directly proportional to the length of the vegetation period. It was shown that the plants cropped with the artificial mulching had the smaller content of the dry matter and L-ascorbic acid. The leaf blades of the two cultivars of the tested plants had the biggest content of the dry matter and L-ascorbic acid and the smallest content of these compounds had the petioles. The Zefir cv. had more tested compounds as the comparison between its and Helios cv. independently on the length of the vegetation period and the artificial mulching
