Effect of the nutrient solution pH on phosphorus concentration in root zone and yield of cucumber grown in rockwool

The rockwool is root medium which requires adequate concentration of elements in nutrient solution and the proper pH for the plant growth. Phosphorus, calcium, iron and manganese are those elements which the speciations depends on pH of the solution. The phosphorus concentration changes and its dynamics in the root growing medium at various pH levels and pH effect on its valability and nutrition status of cucumber plant was investigated. The experiments were carried out with the cucumber cv. Igor F1 grown in a greenhouse on rockwool. The plants were fertilized with recommended nutrient solutions of different pH: 6.5, 5.5, 5.0. The pH of the nutrient solution modified the pH of the root growing zone and influenced the content of the available forms of phosphorus. Decrease phosphorus concentration was linear with increase of pH of nutrient solution. Higher pH (6.5) of the nutrient solution decrease early, marketable and total yield of cucumbers as compare to lower pH (5.5 and 5.0)
