A field experiment was carried out in the years 2001-03 in the Experimental Farm of the University of Podlasie in Siedlce (Poland). It was studied on the area next to the route E-30 which is characterized by heavy road traffic. Motor transport causes environment pollution with cadmium and lead compounds along the road. The effect of organic fertilization on cadmium content in soil and in leaves and storage roots 3 celeriac cultivars (Odrzanski, Gol, Edward), was analysed. The following types of organic fertilizers were applied: farmyard manure 60 t/ha, rye straw 6 t/ha and green manure in the form of summer catch crops (phacelia, rye, hairy vetch, faba bean). Farmyard manure phacelia and faba bean significantly reduced the amount of available cadmium in comparison with rye straw, hairy vetch and nonfertilized soil. The lowest cadmium content was detected in the leaves and storage roots three celeriac cultivars fertilized with farmyard manure and faba bean
