In the lakes examined a different bioavailability of heavy metals was observed in different elements of the ecosystems. On the basis of the results obtained it was ascertained that the greatest differences between lakes in the content of heavy metals in water were observed in bottom waters. However, the volume of metals released from bottom sediments in the hypolimnion zone does not necessary have a decisive effect on the concentration of metals in the epilimnion. Most probably, the mixing of water in the lakes examined was of the bradymixis type, what does not facilitate the carrying of heavy metals from and above bottom zone waters to the surface
