Overproductivity in legume-grass mixtures

The aim of this paper was to investigate the phenomenon of legume-grasses mixture overproductivity. The results of experiments other authors on red clover, lucerne and different grasses grown in mixtures and pure stands used to determine the indices of mixture overproductivity. The level of overproductivity that was found was depending on the choice of species, the agro technical factors and the site conditions. Overproductivity is likely to be caused by reduced interspecific competition, different dynamics of biomass accumulation of individual mixture components, and better utilization of mineral nutrients from soil
